Welcome to our School Website

St. Kerrill's N.S. is a rural school located in a beautiful panoramic setting in North East Galway. We are a co-educational school with three mainstream class teachers, one support teacher and one special needs assistant. At present, we have 49 pupils on roll. Our school promotes a Catholic ethos and is under the patronage of the Bishop of Clonfert, Bishop Michael Duignan.

St. Kerrill's N.S. provides a warm, welcoming child-centred environment based on kindness, equality and respect for oneself and others. Our professional and dedicated teachers aim to nurture and develop an inquisitive mind and a love of learning to help develop socially conscious, critical thinking young citizens of the future.

Our school has an abundance of outdoor space and facilities for pupils to enjoy including; an adjacent pitch, basketball court, handball wall, magical willow dome, school garden. Our all weather astro turf was completed in 2022 and is a true testament to the fantastic community spirit that exists in the parish of Gurteen.

At St. Kerrill's N.S., we place a strong emphasis on promoting health and wellbeing by offering a wide range of sports and physical activities. Children participate in hurling, camogie, gaelic football, handball, rounders, soccer and athletics. We also welcome external coaches from time to time, who work alongside class teachers to further enrich the children's sporting experiences.

Our school has a proud history of achievements both on and off the sporting field, with notable successes in inter-school quizzes, Scór na bPáistí, and GAA, to name just a few.

This year our pupils have been introduced to chess and have embraced the game with great enthusiasm. Our senior classes are now sharing their skills by teaching younger classes, fostering teamwork confidence & strategic thinking.

Our school is well resourced in I.T., with each classroom utilising Smart Boards and iPads to support learning.

The arts have always featured prominently in our school and are interwoven into school life. Drama, debating, music and song are used extensively.

We respect and acknowledge the important role that parents play in the education of their children and we are grateful for the positive partnership that exists between home and school. Our Board of Management and active Parent's Association work collaboratively with the school in ensuring that the highest quality and excellence in education is provided for all pupils.

We hope this website will give you an insight into our busy, progressive and active school.

Recent playground additions

We recently introduced large, durable outdoor board games, which have quickly become a firm favourite among pupils of all ages. These games encourage cooperation, shared play and fun interactions across all classes.
Our newest feature, a spacious outdoor sandpit, has also been an exciting addition. Each day, children can be seen happily digging, exploring and building sandcastles together. It has added a wonderful sense of excitement and creativity to our school yard.
